Future of gated SPECT 　　　Dr. Guido. Germano 　　　Professor of Radiological Sciences, UCLA School of Medicine  　　　Director of Artificial Intelligence in Medicine (AIM) Program, Cedars - Sinai Medical 　　　 Center. In just a few years, gated myocardial perfusion SPECT has become the fastest growing technique in nuclear medicine and a key element in attracting new practitioners to the field of nuclear cardiology. While it is easy to predict this exciting technique,s continuing success, it is worth examining the most likely directions along which gated SPECT will evolve, at the same time defining some issues of critical importance to its widespread acceptance. This chapter will attempt to provide an analysis of gated SPECT,s future with respect to the following areas: a) general diffusion, b) radioisotopes, c) hardware, d) protocols, e) software and f) clinical value.
